If you know me well you that I am a big Clippers fan. They are my favorite team in all of sports. This Clipper season has been a big nightmare. I know they do have their injury problems but you think a team would make adjustments before the season. I guess Coach Dumbleavy didn't get the message after their 4th game of the season. They haven't been able to get on any kind of winning streak. Last year was clearly no excuse for not making the playoffs now they are just showing they're just not good. They need to make some changes this coming offseason. I think even with a full squad they are an avereage .500 team at the best. Which this season wouldn't get you into the playoffs. Teams over .500 probably won't make it. (Thats a whole other story)! Even though there have been a lot of negatives you do got to bring in the positives. Kaman is playing like a beast. Hopefully he can keep it up when Brand returns. And Thornton was a good pick after all and the kid can play at the NBA Level. He got snubbed out of that Rookie Challenge game I thought though. Anyway they play in Toronto tonight against the Raptors. We'll see how they do. Hopefully they play competitive. Anyway have a great weekend and if I do post this weekend it will probably be a non sports post.
Trade Reaction!
With the NBA trade deadline coming up later this month I thought I would share with you guys today my reaction on a couple of trades that have gone on within the last week or so. Lets start with the first one that transpired.
Lakers-Grizzlies:
Lakers get: Pau Gasol
Grizzlies get: Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, 1st Round Picks (2008, 2010), and the draft rights to Marc Gasol.
Ok Lakers get a steal in this trade. Obviously Kobe has been waiting for another superstar to come to the Lakers to play along side him and he finally got it. And just think if Bynum comes back and plays as well as he has all season up until his injury. Look out Western Conference. This does make the Lakers better. And they gave up particaly nothing to get him. As for Memphis! I guess they are trying to get some cap relief going into next season. My opinion is that they need to move out of Memphis! The attendance there has to be one of the worst league and with trading their superstar they probably just want to start all over. The Memphis Grizzlies are starting to look like the Vancouver Grizzlies again! LOL! And to think they made the playoffs 3 years in a row and they are 0-12 in postseason play. They got to start looking to the future.
Grizzlies-Nets:
Grizzlies get: Jason Collins and Cash
Nets get: Strowmile Swift
Well since I don't think this makes Memphis much better or New Jersey for that matter. What the Nets need to do is trade Jason Kidd. He is unhappy there and I don't see him with that franchise too much longer. I thought the Lakers would've made a lot of sense but Dallas seems to be the front runners. As for this trade New Jersey gets rid of a guy that has been with them a while in Jason Collins. Decent rebounder but not much from the offensive end. Really just a big body. And Josh Boone and Sean Williams were starting to play over him anyway. As for the Grizzlies and Swift. I thought it was ridiculous after they traded to get him back after he went to Houston for a season in exchange for Shane Battier. I guess thats one of many reasons why the Grizzlies have gone back to Vancouver status. But getting him back was a mistake and they were just trying to get rid of the cancer of the team.
Heat-Suns:
Heat get: Shawn Marion, Marcus Banks
Suns get: Shaquille O'Neal
Well I'm guessing that the Lakers Grizzlies trade really freaked Phoenix Suns GM Steve Kerr. He's making a bold move by doing this. The big question is does Shaq have enough left in the tank? I'm sure this is good news for Amare Stoudemire as he doesn't have to guard anymore opposing teams big men. Obviously Steve Kerr didn't think Coach D'Antoni's run and gun style to an NBA Championship wasn't going to work. Well it hasn't so far. But he does give him a big body that the Suns do need and if you can just be a steady roll player getting 10-20 points and rebounds a game and guard the other bigs in the west I'm sure it'll be fine. And Phoenix will have a major cap relief once he is off the books. As for the Heat! They get Shawn Marion. A guy who supposedly was unhappy in Phoenix. I don't know why! He was on one of the best teams in the league. And he played along side one of the best point guards in the league. What is there to be unhappy about? Really! If he was unhappy playing in Phoenix I think he will be real unhappy playing with D Wade down in Miami. He can opt out at the end of the season but it would be real hard to see or even imagine him leaving $17M on the table to possibly make less. Especially sine not very many teams will have money to spend this coming summer. As for Marcus Banks. He should finally start to see more playing time now that he is on the leauge's worst team. Hopefully the Heat can finish the season on a good note.
Thats enough of me talking about recent NBA Trades!
Super Bowl Thoughts!
Ok so I know it is Wednesday but I don't think it is a little too late to get in my post super bowl thoughts. My initial reaction on the game was the results. That surprised me the most. I predicted it to be a blowout in favor of the Patriots but I was wrong. And I will own it. It really seems like a lot of people wanted the Giants to win. But I don't know if they wanted to see the Giants win or the Patriots lose. I mean I love rooting for the underdog. Take it from me I am a Clippers fan but the New York Giants played a hell of a football game and they really didn't give Brady a chance to get going. They deserve all the credit in the world so my hats off to them. I would've much rather been in front of a TV than listening to it on my car radio. The reason why I was in my car is because I play in a basketball league on Sunday Nights. And the commissioner was crazy enough to schedule games on Super Bowl Sunday. So when I get to the gym it's not open. I guess it was a cancelleation on the gyms part and they didn't know about it. So needless to say that didn't make me happy. There should've just been no games and I would've went to Dave and Busters Party out in Orange. Hopefully they don't make that mistake again.
