    Construction at Chavez Ravine

In case you missed it, last night on the Joe McDonnell Experience we had Dodgers owner Frank McCourt on the show. Frank told us his plans to add a "Citywalk Type Place" behind Centerfield at Dodgers Stadium. The complex would be a place you can take the family all year round, not just during the baseball season. I applaud Frank McCourt for his efforts and desire to build up Dodgers Stadium and make it a truely great experience. There are some people in this town who are critical of Frank for spending too much money "off the field" rather than on the field. Last time I looked he has opened his checkbook and brought in Jason Schmidt, Nomar Garciaparra and Andrew Jones. Granted those players haven't really panned out, but it's not Frank McCourt's fault. He's making the effort!

    Bad Night for the Bruins

Friday, April 11, 2008, 05:26 PM PST [General]

I've finally recovered from UCLA's loss in the Final Four game to Memphis, so here are my thoughts. Making it to the Final Four is a great accomplishment, but this year the goal wasn't just getting to San Antonio but to win the National Championship. With 4 returning starters from last year's Final Four team, Ben Howland brought in Kevin Love to take this team over the top. Only problem it didn't workout. UCLA coasted through the conference with only 2 loses (USC/Washington), then cruised through the first 5 games in the NCAA Tournament. However, when it came time to go to the Final Four, UCLA didnt show up. The Bruins who locked up their opponents all season long on defense and then beat teams up the court with their supperior athletes, didn't bring it to San Antonio. The Bruins team that I saw on the floor at the AlamoDome didn't resemble the same team I have watched all season long. Credit Memphis for being a solid team with great athletes and for neutralizing Kevin Love in the post, but I think UCLA just didn't show up at the Final Four. Darren Collison, Josh Shipp, Luc Richard brought nothing offensively. Kevin Love got pushed around and neutralized for 40 minutes down low. So who's to blame. You can spread it all around. A little for Ben Howland and a little for each of the players. Disappointing for sure, because this was supposed to be the year. It was all supposed to come together in 2008...guess we'll just have to wait for 2009. Speaking of 2009, best of luck to Kevin Love, Darren Collison and Russell Westbrook who will all be playing in the NBA this time next year.

    UCLA Hoops...

Monday, March 3, 2008, 02:24 PM PST [General]

Don't get me wrong, a 26-3 record and a #3 ranking in the AP poll is great, but I still have some worries about this UCLA Basketball team. Josh Shipp is struggling offensively and as a team, UCLA seems to have problems in their offensive sets. Alot of their points come in transition and off turnovers, which is fine, but in the NCAA Tournament games slow down and it becomes more posession basketball. Just look back at the last two years and the loses to Florida in the NCAA Tournament. UCLA wasn't able to do anything offensively when the games slowed down. Bruins fans I'm not trying to be negative, I just want this team to playing it's "best basketball of year" come tournament time. Believe me I want UCLA to win another NCAA Championship, but Josh Shipp and this offense better pick it up....
