    Dodgers now and then

Tuesday, September 25, 2007, 11:14 AM PST [General]

At the begininng of the season they were predicted by SI to go to the World Series against the Angels. The Dodgers made some moves that seemed neccesary and good enough to win a title. I like a lot of us assumed this was the year the Dodgers finally got over the hump. Nomar was the comeback player of the year and was gonna build off of his success from the previous season. Jeff Kent was gonna have another solid year and be the clubhouse leader the team needed. Juan Pierre was gonna bring his high batting avg, high number of stolen bases, and small number of strikeouts to the team for $11 mil. a year. Luis Gonzalez was gonna get on base and knock in some runs too. Jason Schmidt and Randy Wolf was gonna make the rotation one of the best not only in the NL but in all of MLB when added with Penny, Lowe, and Tomko. The young guns was gonna fill any spots we needed. Oh, and Grady Little was gonna lead us well into the playoffs

In the words of Emily Litella....NEVER MIND

The Dodgers not only will miss the World Series but the playoffs all together. Nomar as been by bit the injury bug...again and has been lackluster at best this season. Jeff Kent has had pretty decent numbers but isnt exactly the most loved guy in that clubhouse. We all found out that Juan Pierre cant field, cant throw, and cant be the guy we depend on late in a game(Especially for $11 million a year). Gonzo has a quiet 15 HR and 67 RBIs that most of us would've traded away for at mid season. Schmidt and Wolf are both done for the year and didnt get too many fans when they were healthy. Tomko got cut and Lowe wants out. The young guy are at war with the vets and people are calling for Little's job.

Amazing what can happen in 7 months.

    Must Be Nice

Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 01:08 PM PST [General]

It must be nice working for the 4-Letter Network (a.k.a BSPN, a.k.a. The Evil Empire). They pay you pretty good money(I assume) and you dont have to know a whole lot about sports to get a job there. You can be called on to rant about a sport topic for as long as they give you and at the end of your segment, your labeled an "expert". The same is true if you write articles on the website or if your a host on their radio station. Only on BSPN could a guy like Stephen A. Smith get his own short lived show after saying that he didnt think Shaq would be traded from the Lakers, the 76ers were gonna wait until the off-season(right around now actually) to trade Allen Iverson and not during the regular season. Oh and according to him, Larry Brown wasnt gonna get fired from the Knicks. Meanwhile everyone in the world with a pulse besides him knew that everyone knew that everything he said wasnt gonna happen, did happen. Good job Stephen A. He's about as credible as my 3 year old nieces and yet not only is he still a "respected basketball analysis", he's now a boxing analysis too. Must be nice. I dont take his opinion with a grain of salt, I dont take his opinion series at all. Its not just him though. Skip Bayless, Calvin Calheard(however the hell he spells his name), Scoop Jackson, Brian Kenney, Sean Salisbury, and Mike and Mike are all worth ignoring. Unfortunately they get all the attention while the good guys like Peter Gammons, Linda Cohn, and Jim Caple go unnoticed. As much as I love KLAC and hate BSPN, any job that requires little effort and still gives you a fat paycheck is a dream job. Bristol here I come
