    MLB

    -The Los Angeles Dodgers lost game 1 of the National League Championship Series 3-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.  The Dodgers had a two run lead heading into the sixth when SS Rafael Furcal made his first error since coming back from the DL on Sept. 24th.  He sailed a Shane Victorino ball over 1st Basemen James Loney's head and Victorino moved to second.  The next at bat Chase Utley made them pay for it with a 2 run homer to tie the game; later in the 6th Pat Burrell homered to give the Phillies a 3-2 lead for good. Derek Lowe went 5 1/3 with 2 earned runs; he had not given up a homerun since Aug. 26th against the Washington Nationals Lastings Milledge, he gave up those two in the 6th in a span of three batters.

    -Manny Ramirez went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI, his double hit the top of center field fence.

    -Andre Eithier was the only other Dodger with 2 hits on the night.

    -The Phillies Cole Hamels pitched 7 innings striking out 8 and allowing only 2 earned runs.

    -Phillies manager Charlie Manual's plans to manage today's Game 2 despite the death of his mother.

    -Game 2 is today at 1:35 pm pacific time in Philly, before the Dodgers come home for games 3 and 4.

    -The Bolts are favored by 5 at home.

    -Philadelphia Eagles RB Bryant Westbrook (ribs) has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.  So is starting guard Shawn Andrews (back) and wideout Reggie Brown (groin).

    -Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow II was hospitalized for an unknown illness and could miss Monday night's game against the New York Giants.

    -The league is investigating the incident between Dallas Cowboys CB Adam Jones and his bodyguard earlier this week that had police come to a  Dallas Hotel.   Head Coach Wade Phillips said Jones will play Sunday against Arizona.

    -Washington Redskins DE Jason Taylor (left calf) practiced for the first time in two weeks and could play against the St. Louis Rams Sunday.

    -Detroit Lions QB Jon Kitna (back spasms) may miss their game Sunday at Minnesota, Dan Orlovsky would start if Kitna can't go.

    -Injured Carolina's OT's Jordan Gross and Jeff Otah practiced for a second consecutive day and could play at Tampa Bay.

    -Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown was fined by the league for his TD celebration in the team's 17-10 victory over the Chargers.

    -Arizona Cardinals S Adrian Wilson has been fined $25,000 by the league for his hit on Buffalo Bills QB Trent Edwards.

    College Football

    -No. 21 Wake Forest (4-1, 2-0) got a late touchdown pass from Riley Skinner to D.J. Boldin in the fourth quarter to put the Demon Deacons ahead of Clemson (3-3, 1-2), 12-7.  They would hold on to  win by the same score, Skinner was 22 of 34 for 186 yards in an ACC defensive battle.

    -UCLA is a 17 ½ point underdog at Oregon.

    -The Bruins have lost 11 of their last 14 road games.

    -RB Raymond Carter (groin) will not make the trip.

    -Both Oregon QB's Justin Roper and Jeremiah Masoli are expected to play.  Roper has practiced this week for the first time since he  tore his MCL against Purdue on Sept. 13th .

    -USC is a 28 point favorite at home against Arizona State.

    -Trojan QB and heisman hopeful Mark Sanchez (knee) will start,  Mitch Mustain will serve as his backup.

    -Fullback Stanley Havili (neck) said he would play.

    -Arizona State's Rudy Carpenter (ankle) will most likely not start.  Backup Danny Sullivan has practiced with the first team this week.

    -Iowa State backup QB Phillip Bates has quit the team and asked for a scholarship release from the school.

    -The Los Angeles Lakers are 0-2 in the preseason after last night's 107-80 loss in Fresno to the Clippers.

    -KTLK's Chris Baker and Langdon Perry- a pair of Minnesota talk radio show host's- have accused Magic Johnson of faking AIDS.  Magic released a statement that saying he was "outraged that they would minimize such a serious and deadly issue."

    -New Jersey Nets F Vince Carter left his team preseason victory over the Heat in Paris with a hamstring injury.  The injury does not appear to be serious.

    -Portland Trail Blazers guard Martell Webster had foot surgery and is expected to be sidelined 8 to 10 weeks.

    -Miami Heats center Jamal Magloire broke his left hand in their overtime exhibition loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

    -The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed C David Harrison to a contract.  Harrison averaged 5.0 points and 2.9 rebounds a game in four seasons with the Indiana Pacers.

    NHL

    -The Anaheim Ducks lost their season opener on the road in San Jose to the Sharks 4-1.  Sharks forward Jonathan Cheechoo scored a pair of second period goals to lead the way.

    -Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredson will have knee surgery and is expected to miss up to two weeks.

    NASCAR

    -Drivers Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick got into a brief scuffle in the Nationwide Series garage, multiple witnesses said.  Allegedly Edwards confronted Harvick about some words he had said and they got into a heated discussion, as Harvick walked away Edwards reportedly grabbed him by the shoulder and spun him around, then Harvick shoed him.  Then Harvick's motor home driver Jeff Smith put Edwards in a headlock and it was broken up.  No punches were thrown.

    Track & Field

    -The downward spiral of former sprint star Tim Montgomery life continues, he was sentenced to five years in prison for dealing heroin.

    -Baseball analyst Tim McCarver who will call the NLDS had comments about Manny Ramirez's behavior in Boston; among several "some of the things he did were simply despicable, despicable - like not playing, refusing to play. Forgetting what knee to limp on and now it's washed, it's gone."

    -The Chicago Cubs have picked up the $7 million option on pitcher Rich Harden for next season.

    -New York Mets relief pitcher Ambiorix Burgos will be jailed in the Dominican Republic for three moths while awaiting his hit and run accident that killed two women.

    NFL

    -San Diego Chargers WR Chris Chambers (ankle) did not practice, but is feeling better and has not ruled out playing Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

    -RB LaDainian Tomlinson (toe) and linebacker Jyles Tucker (hamstring) also did not practice.  Tomlinson is expected to play.

    -FB Mike Tolbert (ankle) was limited in practice and is expected to play.

    -The New England Patriots have beaten the Chargers 3 straight times and more importantly, the Bolts are currently dead last in the NFL against the pass. They've allowed 265.6 yards per game with 10 touchdowns through the air.  If I had Randy Moss or Wes Walker in fantasy football I'd start them.

    -A grand jury indicted Willie DeWayne Clark on the murder of Denver Broncos CB Darrent Williams. It has been a little over a year and ten months after he was gunned downed in a crowded Hummer limousine.  Clark will face 39 total charges.

    -Adam Jones could be in trouble again with the NFL after getting into a fight with one of his bodyguards.  Police were called to a Dallas hotel to investigate a fight between Jones and his bodyguard that damaged a bathroom.  The team won't discipline him.

    -According to reports Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis received a letter from Commissioner Roger Goodell informing him that the franchise could face penalties for his public accusation of tampering by the New England Patriots.

    -Denver Broncos RB Selvin Young and TE Tony Scheffler will miss Sunday's game against Jacksonville due to groin injuries.  Rookie Eddie Royal (ankle) is questionable.

    -Cleveland TE Kellen Winslow (illness) may miss Monday night's game against the New York Giants.

    -Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco has been named the team's starting QB for the rest of the season by coach John Harbaugh.

    -According to the website MLive.com, former Detroit Lions WR Charles Rogers must repay the team $8.5 million in bonus money.  Rogers was the second overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft by the team.

    College Football

    -Bruins kicker Kai Forbath could take Jimmy Roststein place and handle the kickoffs Saturday against Oregon. 

    -Center Micah Reed (strained left knee) sat out practice and will likely miss the game.

    -WR Marcus Everett (dislocated toe) will make the trip but will likely not play.

    -SC MLB Rey Maualuga (knee) will start against Arizona State Saturday.

    -QB Mark Sanchez practiced for the first time since injuring his knee against Oregon.  His status should be determined today for the game Saturday.

    -RB Joe McKnight (right knee soreness) missed most of practice but is expected to play.

    -FB Stanley Havili (neck stiffness) did not practice and is questionable.

    -LB Michael Morgan (concussion) has not practiced all week.

    -Arizona State QB Rudy Carpenter (left ankle) has not practiced this week and is doubtful to play.  Danny Sullivan would take his place; Carpenter has started 36 consecutive games.

    -Auburn has fired first year offensive coordinator Tony Franklin 6 games into the season.  Franklin was coach Tommy Tuberville's 5th offensive coordinator in the past 10 years.  Assistant Steve Ensminger will run the offense the rest of the season.

    -East Carolina have suspended receiver Jamar Bryant indefinitely for an undisclosed team violation. 

    Tonight

    -No. 21 Wake Forest will host Clemson.

    NBA

    -LA Lakers head coach Phil Jackson was at practice after missing Tuesday's preseason opener due to sore and swelling in his legs.

    -The Lakers waived free agent rookie Dwayne Mitchell leaving them with 18 players, the league maximum is 15 for the season.

    -Washington Wizards C Brendan Haywood (torn ligament in right wrist) will be out four to six months.

    NHL

    -The Los Angeles Kings named forward Dustin Brown team captain.  Brown is 23 and becomes the youngest captain in team history.  Forward Anze Kopitar and defenseman Matt Greene were named alternate captains.

    -The Anaheim Ducks start their regular season tonight at San Jose.

    -The Sharks have assigned veteran defenseman Kyle McLaren to the minors.

    -Chicago Blackhawks left winger Ben Eager has been suspended by the league for 3 games for a stick-swinging incident last Thursday at Dallas.

    Boxing

    -Former Heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield has been offered a chance to fight current WBA heavyweight champ Nikolai Valeuev in December.  Holyfield turns 46 years old this month.

    World Cup

    -Austrian skiing star Marlies Schild will miss the upcoming World Cup season after breaking her leg in training camp.

    NBA

    -The Western Conference Champions Los Angeles Lakers lost their preseason opener last night 99-90 to the Utah Jazz  at the Honda Center. C Andrew Bynum played for the first time since he injured his knee last January. He came off the bench and in 24 minutes he scored 15 pts and grabbed 8 boards. Kobe Bryant played 24 minutes scoring 8 points. 

    -Head Coach Phil Jackson missed the game due to soreness in his legs, assistant Kurt Rambis filled in. 

    -Luke Walton (off-season-ankle surgery), Sasha Vujacic (sprained ankle) and Sun Yue (mono) sat out.

    -Elgin Baylor is out as the vice president of basketball operations with the Los Angeles Clippers.  Details on why are still unknown.    Head Coach Mike Dunleavy will take on an additional role as the team's general manager.

    -Trailblazers C Greg Oden finally made his NBA debut after sitting out all of last season undergoing micro fracture knee surgery.  The top pick of the 2007 NBA draft had 13 points and 5 boards in 20 minutes The Blazers won 110-81 over the Sacramento Kings.

    -Washington Wizards F Antwan Jamison sprained his right knee in their preseason opener against the Dallas Mavericks. 

    MLB

    -After losing in the ALDS to the Boston Red Sox the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will face some tough decisions in the off-season about who they sign.  1B Mark Teixeira, closer Francisco Rodriquez, pitcher Jon Garland and outfielder Garrett Anderson all could be gone.  Early indications has the team letting Rodriquez, Garland and Anderson go and use that money to attempt to sign Teixeira and make a run at free agent pitcher CC Sabathia.

    -The American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox starts Friday in Tampa.

    -Cubs relief pitcher Carlos Marmol was in a car accident in the Dominican Republic, the injuries were minor.

    College Football

    -Oregon QB Jason Roper (knee injury) could play Saturday against the Bruins.  He has missed the last 3 games for the Ducks.

    -Center Micah Reed (knee) and WR Marcus Everett (toe) participated in parts of practice.  They are questionable.

    -UCLA senior linebacker Kyle Bosworth's left knee is healing slowly and it's possibly he could miss the season, redshirt and come back for a fifth season.

    NFL

    -The hatred that the San Diego Chargers (2-3) and the New England Patriots (3-1) have for each other will be back on display Sunday night in primetime when the two teams play in San Diego, the game is at 5:15 pm pacific time. The Patriots have ended the Chargers season each of the last two years.  After last year's 21-12 AFC Championship Game loss, the Chargers center Nick Hardwick had some harsh words for New England's DE Richard Seymour.  "Richard Seymour is the biggest (expletive) I've ever come across in football" and also stated  "they've got 10 good football players on that team. Richard Seymour is a dirty, cheap little pompous (expletive)."   Things should get interesting.

    New England Patriots (3-1) Injury Report

    -RB Lamont Jordan (leg) is day to day, linebacker Eric Alexander and cornerback Lewis Sanders are listed as doubtful.  Tom Brady (knee) is out.

    -Indianapolis Colts WR Marvin Harrison faces a civil suit for a shooting on Apr. 29th.  Dwight Dixon filed a suit claiming he has suffered "serious and permanent injuries... and severe shock to his nerves and nervous system."  Harrison admits to getting in a fight with Harrison earlier, but claims he didn't shoot him.  The gun was owned by Harrison. No criminal charges have been filed by the District Attorney.

    -Jacksonville Jaguars WR Matt Jones agreed to enter a Washington County Drug Court instead of facing a trial for felony possession of cocaine.  Jones faced 3 to 10 years in prison if he was convicted.

    -New York Jets S Eric Smith lost his appeal of his 1 game suspension and $50,000 fine and will have to sit out Sunday's game against Cincinnati.   Smith's suspension was for his helmet to helmet hit on Arizona's Anquan Boldin.

    -Carolina Panthers WR D.J Hackett (sprained MCL) will miss this weeks game against the Tampa Bay Bucs and possibly more.

    -Dallas Cowboys CB Terrance Newman (abdominal irritation) will miss their game against Arizona.

    -New Orleans Saints CB Tracy Porter (dislocated right writs) will miss the remainder of the season.

    -The NFL suspended Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Daryl Blackstock for four games for failing a performance-enhancing substances test. 

    NHL

    -Kings forward Patrick O'Sullivan has ended his holdout and agreed to a 3 year deal with an average of $2.925 million a year with the club.

    -The Kings final cuts to get to the 22-man active roster believe to be forwards Teddy Purcell and Kevin Westgarth, defenseman Alec Martinez and goalie Jonathan Quick, all of them will be sent to the American Hockey League.

    -The Anaheim Ducks named veteran defenseman Scott Niedermayer as the team captain and defenseman Chris Pronger and forward Ryan Getzlaf as alternate captains.

    -The Ducks have set their 22-man active roster after assigning center Andrew Ebbett and left wing Ryan Donally to their American League affiliate, the Iowa Chops.  They open the regular season tomorrow night in San Jose against the Sharks.

    -The Dallas Starts placed veteran defenseman Sergei Zubov (hip surgery) on the injured reserve.

    Breeders Cup

    -Churchill Downs will host the 27th Breeders Cup in 2010, Churchill Downs is the home of the Kentucky Derby.  This year's and 2009's Breeders Cup will be at Santa Anita.

    Cycling

    -The International Cycling Union will allow 7-time Tour de France champions Lance Armstrong to compete in the Jan. 20-25th Tour Down Under.  It will be Armstrong's first race in three years.

    Not that I can talk about bad Quarterbacks, but Denver Quarterback is only in 2nd years and Da Bears defense will be awesome.
